Acrylics 20 x 20

This was my final for last semester. It had to be a photo of something in your house that wasnt PRE-set up. This is a photo of my thread drawer.

Interesting project where it is required you can't setup a still-life. Maybe because so the students wouldn't fuss and overdue a still-life?

This is a LOT better than I could've found in that situation! I wish I could full view it (stupid dA bug) but the colors look fabulous and I can see your wonderful texture of your painting style, good job! :-)

Hey, thanks! Yes, it was a real pain to NOT set something up. The reasoning of this assignment was a lesson in subject matter and training our eye to find something both unusual and interesting in everyday life. Strange huh?

According to my professor there are a lot of subject matter that has "been there and done that." He really focuses on subject matter. Trying to find something unique to paint that would set you apart from this cliche' type art and also to come up with unique challenges to problems for example in the Intermediate class (I take that next year) had a paint day where the subject they drew from the hat was "tree" but they had to come up with subject matter or solutions that werent just a painting of a tree. You know?

Sorry, babbling here but he makes such a big deal out of this with us. I also find it very ineresting and challenging. I guess in some ways - he is right - there are a ton of flower, landscape, ect painters out there. However, I also think that the people looking at art sometimes prefer what they are used to.

Hmmmm. Oh the complexity of art sometimes ;-)

Hey thanks, glad you like it. You might be right about the photography - I wouldnt say that is my strongest skill. The majority of the problem is that I live in the midwest where there is crappy weather or overcase 90% of the time so I dont have the ability to photo in good natural light most of the time so I have to use the indoor setting on my digi and leave the flash off so it doesnt reflect the acrylics. It is an issue but I do my best.

I suppose once I am ready to do this for a living I will have to pay to have some of my best paintings shot at a studio but for now, this will have to do.

Thanks again!
